I’m only ten hours into the gameplay, but so far very disappointed. Two points in particular: the lack of any story/plot and the drab landscape which is an endless sea of mud and brick houses. Both are points that added body and character to historic AC games. Other annoyances include the unintelligible whiny narrator (which I turned off) and the distracting foreign text in the subtitles. At this point, the game is just a simple kill-or-be-killed journey which I hope improves before I get bored.
ADDED 2 WEEKS LATER: Well…I ignored my initial concern and picked at it until finished, hoping it might finally live up to the excellence of its predecessors. Didn’t happen. Repetition flourished (just go kill the next guy) with little variation other than the Arabic names which were impossible to remember. The ending in the temple was a disaster culminating in ten minutes of rambling gibberish.
All that said, there was one high point. The short side quests picked up in the Hidden-One’s bureau were different and challenging.
