   Love the way the kit looks. Assembly was not too bad, the last bottom trim peice can be tricky. I personally did not use the whole kit, like the touch pad as heating up the pad to scrap the glue was not something I was interested in doing, but liked the contrast with the black, and black buttons.

   I will say if you’re not familiar with smaller screws and working with electronics this might be overwhelming for you. but if you’re up for the challenger the results are amazing! I chose to reuse the factory touchpad and buttons but the shell itself is of a good quality and fits really well. the feel in my hands is as good as original shell. and the finally look is great! you would think it’s a factory controller. if you have the patience, worth the effort!

   After mixing “Hope Gray”, “Black”, and “Scarlet Red” complete shell kits and buttons for the Dualsense Edge controller, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the pieces all fit very well together. I had never did this before and found the instructional video was nearly sufficient to completely explain the process. There were 3 points in the installation video that became difficult. So I had searched for other videos and pieced together these other sources of information in order to solve the problems I was having. 1) The shoulder (trigger buttons L2 &R2) had springs that popped off when disassembled. These springs were not mentioned in the video at all, probably due to my Edge Controller being a different model than the one in the video. I was able to find another video source that completely described the installation of these springs. 2) The shoulder (trigger L2 & R2) buttons have a part inside the button that needs to be removed, but the video doesn’t completely describe how to remove these parts. I was able to piece together information from other videos to remove these parts from the buttons. 3) There were several occasions where the pieces would not fit together and I had to take them apart and reassemble them over and over until they finally fit. Patience was key here. These shell kits do not come with all the tools you may need, such as tweezers for electronics, hairdryer/heat gun for the touch control pad, and a magnetic pad for organizing all the screws that are removed in the disassembly process, and a magnetic screwdriver is a huge bonus. The installation process took me just about 3 hours to complete. I did not replace the touchpad. Had I replaced the touchpad, I assume the installation process would’ve taken another half hour. These complete shell kits are a great value when you consider the cost to have someone build a custom controller. I would’ve easily spent an additional $100-$200 dollars more if I had this custom built. Overall the look is great. I got everything I was looking for in controller with a customized shell. The pieces fit well together, (admittedly) after several attempts of reassembling them. I was fortunate not to have any unsightly gaps in between the pieces. The quality is great and is similar if not equal to the strength, thickness and durability of plastics used in a controller directly from PlayStation. Much like the original plastics that came with the controller, I found the grip of this shell to be rather slick. So I installed some thin, rubberized grip, which makes for a very nice non-slip grip. This grip also helps with keeping the controller from sliding around on a hard surface like a table. Now I’m very happy to have a controller that I love the look of!

   Ordered this black version and followed the YouTube videos, so easy to follow just like their other ps5 kits.

6. Disappointing Verified Buyer – 26 January 2025

   It’s made pretty well for the price like all of their other shells. The soft touch feel is also nice when holding and still allows you to grip the handles without worrying about it slipping or dropping. My biggest problem is how flimsy the back piece is when clipping in because I snapped two of them (one of them was a replacement) and after I finally got it to go on it still didn’t sit flush like it should’ve. Another issue that all of eXtremeRate’s shells have is the paint has already started rubbing off on the grip areas and I’ve barely even used it for maybe less than 5 hours total.

   I will ExtremeRate the praise of not denying issues with the product and sending me one replacement when I initially complained and a refund when the replacement had the same issue.

   However from a product standpoint, i simply cannot recommend it. The back plate as seen in the photos simply do not “click” into place, they might make a clicking sound but they do not latch on. This ends up with extremely ugly gaps all around the controller. In the last photo i have used the OEM back plate alongside the other black pieces and whilst i looks passable, it definitely is not the full black look i was going for.

   The product was very easy to assemble. The only gripe i have is that the clips, due to the way the controller is designed, don’t push in all the way in some spots causing them to easily break. This isn’t a major issue for me since most previous controllers had the same issue. But it’s something to beware of when assembling the controller to not rush in some spots so the clips can snap in right. especially in the center of the controller by the mic, where there are two clips that clip under the mic and charging contact points that wouldn’t clip in for me and just ended up breaking. The controller is also prone to fingerprints due to the finish on the black case, keep this in mind when deciding your color way. if you’re new to controller maintenance, this may be harder for you. I’m more experienced at this kind of stuff but can still see it being relatively easy for most people

   Bought a used dualsense edge for cheap and was able to change the shell and it looks good as new! Works great, has remained sturdy after a few months of use, I’ve taken it apart a few times to change other parts and it still goes back together, would definitely recommend, I will say if you do not know what you are doing you have got to be careful or you maybe break it.

    Got one red and the black one and mixed the colors. Also got a one that changes color depending on the light. They don’t snap together very well on the lower left, but it doesn’t affect game play. Good quality plastic and the video is easy to pause for step by step assembly. Bought stick on grips because they tend to slip a little. I’m very happy with the versatility, look, and ease of assembly. I’d say I’d buy again, but I only have three edge controllers.
