game is pretty awesome.. combat system is a unique blend of rts and srpg.. can be more difficult for genre veterans but overall it gets you engaged and invested(if you find the highest difficulty of baldur’s gate 3 or warhammer40k rogue trader to be easy then you will cut through this game like paper).
story is generic anime stuff.. nothing special, quite a bit of nonsensical fillers.. not as good as persona 4 golden but not as prolixious and predictable as the newer fire emblem games. you will roll you eyes a few times but not bad
art is gorgeous.. i have been a fan of vanillaware’s signature highly-detailed and beautifully animated hand-drawn art style since muramasa-demonblade (a masterpiece) and this game delivers on that aspect without a hitch. you really don’t see this well-crafted aesthetic in modern games anymore which is unfortunately.
in summary, if you like rpg, you will have a good time

Sort of a given, but Vanillaware is at their best ever with the art. UO is absolutely gorgeous.
Tactics: I’m nearing 100 hours, no spoilers, to me this game is a stunner like valkyria chronicles 1 was. New ideas, new gameplay, engaging characters and narrative, just a solid tactics rpg front to back. Unicorn Overlord brings so many new ideas that WORK WONDERFULLY. I suggest playing on the hardest difficulty if you are a tactics vet. I’m putting UO on a pedestal right next to the ps1 FFT and valkyria chronicles 1. It’s so f’ing great.

The Monarch Edition is absolutely amazing. The art book and the card game looks very high quality and I think they did a good job with it. I haven’t tried the music cd yet but there are two of them which is a nice addition. The game itself is addictingly fun and been playing it non stop. I haven’t had this much fun since Final Fantasy Tactics. This was a very good buy for me.

First off, the game is good. I platinum trophy’d it. If you’re at all familiar with VanillaWare games you know you’re gonna get great artwork and visuals (though it’s not their usual style this time around) and the game will be fun. That being said the Collector’s Edition is just kinda ok. The artbook is great because it’s VanillaWare, but the card game included, which is the main draw, just isn’t quite up to snuff. The main disappointment with it is that it features no characters from the game in it, it’s all just generic units. In a deck building game like this you occasionally want those high powered, more rare cards to pop up once in a while and it doesn’t really have that. Even if they had just chosen one character from each class that would have been much better.

Gorgeous art, really fun gameplay! Some of the characters are awesome, and the story is compelling enough (not the most original). Really, this is Vanillaware at peak form. I love it!

This is the best collectors edition I’ve ever purchased. The limited edition card game is the highlight of this collection. It’s a solid card battler. I’ll definitely sleeve it, as I doubt it’ll ever hit retail separately. The rest of the goodies are also top notch. The game itself is highly rated for a reason. I’m enjoying it immensely.

Easy platinum. Did 90 hours but you can rush it maybe at 60. No real post game.
The extras for the collectors edition is nice too.
Mipo Verified Buyer –
Collector’s Edition truly worthy of calling it that and not just a bunch of in-game dlc codes. Like for real, they made a card game just for the CE? What company even spends the resources on that? It just shows how much love and care they put into their game.
The gameplay itself is an interesting take on srpg that uses “coding” logic to set up how parties act in battle. Highly addictive and fun although might be a bit niche of a genre. My final game time was ~120hrs. I couldn’t get enough of optimizing my teams and experimenting with new combinations.
